How We Vet Every Carer on Harborly

Every carer who appears on Harborly has passed all seven steps of our verification process before their profile goes live. There are no shortcuts and no exceptions.

Here is exactly what we check and how we check it.

1

Application Review

Every carer completes a detailed application covering their care experience, the types of support they offer, the areas they cover and their availability. Our team reviews every application manually. Incomplete or inconsistent applications are not approved.

2

Photo ID Verification

Carers must submit a valid photo ID a passport, UK driving licence or biometric residence permit. We check that the document is current, legible and matches the name on the application.

3

Right to Work in the UK

We verify that every carer has the legal right to work in the United Kingdom. This is a mandatory check. Carers who cannot demonstrate right to work are not approved regardless of their experience or qualifications.

4

Enhanced DBS Check

Every carer must hold a valid enhanced DBS certificate checked against the adults’ barred list. We accept DBS certificates issued within the last three years or active subscriptions to the DBS Update Service. A profile does not go live until the certificate is received and verified.

5

Reference Checks

Carers must provide two professional references, at least one from a previous UK care employer or client. We contact referees directly. Unverifiable references are not accepted.

6

Selfie Verification

Carers submit a live selfie matched against their photo ID. This confirms the person creating the profile is the same person named on the documents. It prevents identity fraud at the point of registration.

7

Admin Approval

Once all six checks are complete, our team carries out a final review before the profile goes live. Any concern raised at this stage however minor is investigated before approval is granted.

What happens after approval?

Approved carers receive a Verified badge visible to all clients. If a concern is raised about any carer at any point, their profile is suspended immediately pending investigation. We do not wait for formal complaints before acting.
